The passage before is not speaking of a creed, a doctrine, or a system of religion (traditional or contemporary). Certainly not minimizing the necessity of sound doctrine which clearly sets forth the Lord Jesus Christ, it is evident as well throughout the scriptures that the foundation of our salvation is much more than, though not apart from, agreement with doctrinal truth. One may embrace the fundamental truths of the gospel and yet never rest upon that SURE FOUNDATION, which is none other than the blessed Son of God. The Person of the Lord Jesus Christ is the necessary life of the believing child of God - He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life 1John 5:12. Myriads of professing Christians, without questioning, have for the foundation of their salvation only a religious experience, and always incorporate something that they have done or know into the mix. There is only ONE Sure Foundation, and that is Christ. One may believe the gospel, one may believe the doctrines of grace as much as a human being can believe anything else One may be able to argue and debate with convincing accuracy, the points of sound doctrine, yet never be vitally living upon and in the Lord Jesus Christ. I understand that there are some who would disagree with this truth, but those that do, apparently stumble upon the Foundation Stone which is Jesus Christ our Lord, the Rock of our salvation. He who truly believes upon Christ, believes because the life of Christ has been imparted to Him in regeneration - Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live John 5:25. I feel that this truth is critical and necessary to be set forth because of the element of truth which is involved, by which one is prone to find false security in the knowledge thereof. What we know is vital, but WHO we know is MOST VITAL! - John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, Whom Thou hast sent. Believe what you will, call it what you please, but this I know for a certainty - For other Foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ 1Co 3:11. He is a LIVING, REIGNING, PERSON Whom I must know, or else I must perish!
