BEING CONFIDENT “Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” Php 1:6 The child of God that never has a doubt or fear or a questioning heart is already in Glory. He or she has already finished their course here on earth. They are “far better” than we. It is a great consolation to this sinner that how I feel from one day to the next has no effect on God performing His purpose in the accomplishment of Christ and His redemptive work. God forbid that I should give approval to unbelief, doubting, or a fearful heart. Nevertheless this is just the way it is. While confessing my sin in this matter of weakness of faith, I must confess as well I believe without question the verse before us. By God’s efficacious grace I am confident that my eternal salvation rests in Christ and His ability to carry it through. Those whom God has chosen in electing grace, He has predestinated to be conformed to the image of His Son. This will happen! This is settled! I am confident. The evidence of a work of grace in a sinners heart is just that - faith in Him, belief, confidence - “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” Heb 11:1. The believer’s faith is not in his faith, rather in the Object - CHRIST! He shall not fail or be discouraged. In a miraculous way our Lord has given to the objects of His love a blessed provision which we desperately need in the midst of our struggles here on this earth, and that is His Word, the gospel of His grace. The Lord Jesus Christ says to us, “Come to Me, Believe on Me, Look to me, Rest in Me, Trust Me, Cast all your cares on Me, Learn of Me, Follow Me, I will never leave you or forsake you”. This is more than an invitation, it is a loving command without which we would not. He is our confidence. The end of our salvation is as certain as its beginning. We began in faith, we die in faith. His faith - our faith - the same faith. By God’s grace may we die daily to self and live daily by faith in Him. - Tommy |
