“Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” Romans 3:24 This glorious passage sums up the wondrous doctrine of God’s justification of chosen sinners without controversy, that is if we believe the scriptures. There are four blessed truths revealed in this inspired Word of God that brings peace to the hearts of all who know and love Him and among all those who know and love Him. The first truth that we see is that all His people are indeed justified in His sight - “Being justified”. This is a term such as “”Thank you for being here”. It is a present term. That is we are now justified. Since God never changes this must be an eternal “now or being” justification. Therefore it is concluded that in His sight, as He loved us with an everlasting love, we are justified with an eternal justification. Secondly we see that this justification is FREE! That is Christ satisfied all the demands and obligations of His people therefore freely justifying them. There is nothing that we could do to make ourselves just before Him, so then if we are justified He must be the JUST JUSTIFIER of the ungodly - Romans 3:26; Romans 4:5. Thirdly we see that this great work of justification is by His grace. This simply reinforces the truth that it is free and not owing to our works. The whole of salvation is from the gracious hand of our God - Exodus 33:19; Romans 9:15-18. Fourthly we that our being justified freely by His grace is accomplished in time by our Substitute, our Surety, our Covenant Head the Lord Jesus Christ by His propitiatory work in His life and death. Let us not mar the beauty of redemption by trying to separate what God purposed in eternity from what Christ accomplished in time. It is one and the same - 1 Peter 1:18-21. It is only by faith that He has given us that we see and believe on Christ. As our faith did not die for us neither does it justify us before God. It is because He has justified us that we are justified and it because that we are just before Him that we believe on His blessed name. Faith is the means of our knowledge and perception of our justification by Christ’s righteousness, and of our enjoying the comfort of it - “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” Romans 5:1. Faith says, “I am justified”. By God’s grace this is where I bow. - Tommy |
