BELIEF OF THE TRUTH
I am convinced by the Word of God and by the Omnipotent Spirit of God, that it is impossible for natural man to believe the truth as revealed by God in Holy Writ. The Bible is inspired by God. It is of Spiritual content and Substance, and can only be Spiritually discerned - “The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” 1Co 2:14 ; “But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit” - Verse 10. Believing the Word of God is much more than an intelligent acceptance of declarative fact. Belief of the Truth, as in holy context, is the embracing of the Substance of Divine revelation (which is the Lord Jesus Christ) with the heart, in love and affection. The cause of this supernatural ability is singularly owing to the efficacious love of God in His embracing chosen sinners in the Person of God the Son. Therefore “Belief of the Truth” is impossible apart from the love of God, which begets love to God - “We love Him, because He first loved us” 1John 4:19. There are those that receive the truth, (the same as they receive the fact that they are alive and that eventually they will die), yet never receive the “love of the Truth” - “They received not the love of the Truth, that they might be saved” 2Th 2:10. Contrary to the opinion of all “free-willers”, believing the Truth is not a voluntary act of the depraved mind and heart, it is the act of a new heart which God Almighty has sovereignly, lovingly, and graciously given by the regenerating power of His Holy Spirit. And, furthermore, those that only believe the fact without the love are nothing more or less than Armenian at heart, as they give all glory to the doctrinal position of a “self-reformed” mind. A believing heart is a heart that, in love, submits itself to the Lord Jesus Christ, and to all truth as it is revealed in Him alone. Do we believe the truth, or do we believe the Truth and love It? This, my friend, is not only a matter of the heart, it is a matter of life and death! - Tommy |
