LOOKING UNTO JESUS
“Looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith; Who for
the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame,
and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God” Hebrews
12:2.
The verse before us describes the Object of the believer’s faith in
both His humiliation and His exaltation. This is precisely how we
see Him as He is revealed in our hearts by the efficacious power of
the Spirit of the True and Living God. The Word of God declares the
great work of salvation for chosen sinners accomplished by the One
that is now seated in His Own resurrection glory. This One Who is
both Lord and Christ is Saviour as well and gloriously perfect in
completeness. We look unto Him that lived for us (wrought a perfect
righteousness for His people), died for us (suffered the wrath of
God in the putting away of our sin), and now “ever lives to make intercession
for us”. We look unto Him alone. He is the center and circumference
of the “ALL OF MY SALVATION”. The faith of God’s elect not only believes
the truth of the gospel of the Person and work of Christ, but embraces
with love and affection, the very embodiment of that truth, the Lord
Jesus Christ - “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth,
and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me” John
14:6. Man may by natural reasoning come to agreement with doctrinal
truth or he may choose to believe a lie, however, no one will never
know the salvation of God unless and until he, by God given faith
looks to the Author and Finisher of our faith, the Lord Jesus Christ,
in Whom all truth resides. The fact of the matter is that all who
look to Christ by faith see Him as He is revealed in the passage before
us. Those who do not look to Him do not believe the record that God
has given of His Son and consequently look to themselves for salvation
and will ultimately perish should they continue in unbelief - “I
said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye
believe not that I am He, ye shall die in your sins” John 8:24.
Who or what are we looking to for salvation? “Then Simon Peter
answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal
life” John 6:68.
