“And Moses and Aaron went into the tabernacle of the congregation, and came out, and blessed the people: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the people.” Leviticus 9:23

After Aaron, the High Priest, had satisfied Moses’ demands in the offering up of the sin offering, the burnt offering, and peace offerings they went together into the tabernacle of the congregation and came out together and they together blessed the people and all the people saw the glory of the Lord.

This truly is a beautiful picture of our Great High Priest, the Lord Jesus Christ, satisfying the demands of God’s holy law as He offered up Himself for His people. Here “Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other” Psalms 85:10. The infinite thrice Holy God Almighty bears no anger or wrath toward any of His people because Justice and Mercy have embraced each other, both being satisfied in our Redeemer. The revelation of this wondrous accomplishment is manifest in the communion and fellowship of Moses and Aaron…together they went in, came out, and blessed the people. The glory of Jehovah appears to us in Christ and His redemptive work. He is the Blessing of the Covenant. Satisfaction is the crown jewel, the heart, the meat, the soul, the Living Bread of the gospel of God (Christ is God‘s satisfaction). God the Father and God the Son stand hand in hand clothed with intrinsic glory and smile upon the objects of their affection. This message of substitution and satisfaction is the only message that honors and glorifies God and gives hope and assurance to poor sinners such as ourselves. Should we come short of the blood of Christ in our message or faith we have come short of the glory of God and salvation in Him. The Lord Jesus Christ is the only One in whom the glory of God is revealed savingly. There is no other message.

As confirmation of God’s acceptance of Christ’s sacrifice fire came down from heaven and consumed the sacrifice (verse 24). As a result the people fell on their faces and worshipped. This is the same effect the preaching of Christ has upon those who see His glory by faith.
