NO SIN

“And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins; and in Him is no sin.” 1John 3:5

In the passage before us Almighty God declares four truths that reveal the heart and soul of the glorious gospel of the elect’s redemption by and in the Lord Jesus Christ our Sacrifice and Substitute. In the entire context of this portion of scripture we see how God accepts and views His people in Christ according to His accomplished work in sinless perfection -SINLESS! “No sin” is the key to understanding who Christ is, what He came to do, who He came to do it for and the effect of what He did. These four truths cannot be severed as they are the essence of the Incarnate God displaying His Holy attributes and virtues, and as He is the sum and substance of all scripture. The Lord Jesus Christ is no less than God - “The Word was made flesh…”. “He was manifested (made flesh) to take away our sin”. And this He did by sacrificing Himself on God’s altar. He was identified as “The Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world”, (Not everyone’s sin in the world - but all of the sin of everyone He died for). He came to “Save His people from their sins” - Mt 1:21. Those for whom He died were sinners in every sense of the word - “dead in trespasses and sins” Eph 2:1. And He redeemed them in every sense of the word - “the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin” 1 John 1:7. As a result of His accomplished work as the God-man, those for whom He died have no sin before the justice of God. In Him is no sin and they being in Him have no sin before God - “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus…” Romans 8:1. Sin = condemnation! No sin = no condemnation! The Lord Jesus Christ presents to God the Father all those for whom He lived and died “a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish” Eph 5:27. What a miracle of grace that God would cause poor sinners to see (by faith) their salvation in Christ alone! “Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift” 2Co 9:15.
