THE HEART I cannot stress enough how vital it is to know and believe sound Bible doctrine. The declaration of the Truth and belief of the Truth is the means whereby God calls His elect to faith in Christ. However, the mere knowledge of Biblical truth and mental accent to that truth is no more effectual to the salvation of sinners than any other system of doctrine. It is only when God Almighty is pleased to effectually reveal the Lord Jesus Christ to the heart by the preaching of the Gospel that dead sinners live. All the truth of God is revealed in Christ our Redeemer. Not to confuse the issue (it is an issue) we must preach Christ , He Who is our salvation. It is God given faith in Christ our Lord that is evidence of Spiritual life…Not faith in doctrine. Those to whom God has given of His Spirit believe in Christ, bow to Christ, follow Christ, love Christ, and love all truth as is revealed in Him. You see, salvation is a heart work, not a head work only. Is this confusing? Let me give you an example: There are lots of things that I know to be true and by that knowledge I must agree that it is the truth. Nevertheless, I may not necessarily embrace and love that which I agree to be truth. Therefore, with my natural mind I agree, but my heart has no real love for it and is dead toward it. This is the condition of those that know doctrine and don’t know Christ. The conclusion is very simple…There is no real knowledge, Spiritual knowledge, of the Truth apart from a living, vital heart union with Christ. Then, when we know the truth in Christ we will love it because it is revealed in Him. - John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.” The heart that God gives in regeneration is a heart that lives unto Him that loved us and gave Himself for us. Not matter what we believe to be true, if there is not a heart love for and a heart embracing of our dear Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ there is no Spiritual life, as yet - 1John 4:19 “We love Him, because He first loved us.” 1John 5:12 “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” Do we have a heart for Jesus Christ? If we do, we will have a desire for Him, His Gospel and His work, and will seek to be committed to Him because we love Him Who first loved us. - Tommy
