| The Believer’s Security The security of the child of God is more than just an argument about how long one will be saved, or if one can lose their salvation. The salvation of God’s elect is an eternal salvation because it is a work of God in Christ. Life eternal is in, and only in, union with the Lord Jesus Christ - 1John 5:11 “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.” The opposing position, that a child of God might lose their salvation, suggests that salvation is by our works rather than by the grace of God. This is the farthest thing from the truth. The Lord Jesus Christ is our life. In Him we live, by Him we live, and our life is the very life of the Spirit of the Living God. Therefore eternal life is measured in quality rather than in longevity. The verse of scripture before us (as well as hundreds of others) plainly, dogmatically, and simply declares that God gives unto His people eternal life in His Son and we shall never perish because we are in His hand. Our security is the Person and work of our Redeemer. He accomplished eternal redemption for us. He provides an everlasting righteousness for us. We are kept by the power of God through faith that He has given to us. There is nothing uncertain with God, especially concerning the salvation of His people - Matthew 1:21 “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call His name JESUS: for He shall save His people from their sins.”
